CIBSE Maxi Gain

Used to display results from the CIBSE Maxi Gain calculation. Total gains for individual rooms or the entire building can be viewed in the Report tab. You can Select rooms and adjust Design data to run the calculation using different dates and conditions.

Accessed from:

  • Ribbon: Energy Simulator > Calculations > Steady State Calculations > CIBSE Maxi Gain
SettingDescription
Select rooms Lists all the rooms in the building. Select All, Select None, Select Zone and Select Floor controls are provided to select rooms for the calculation. Results.
Design data
Contains controls used to change the design data for the calculation to consider.
  • First/Last month - Sets the range of months to calculate.
  • Day of month - Sets the design day.
  • Room design temperatures - Defines the room design temperatures for the project as Air or Resultant temperatures.
  • Include external shading - Enables consideration of external shading. If you opt to include external shading, the calculation will check if each window is shaded by external obstructions at each hour of the day. Shaded windows will receive diffuse solar radiation only.
  • Include window fins - Enables consideration of window fins. If you opt to include window fins, the calculation will check if each window is shaded by fins at each hour of the day.
  • Fixed temperature air - When Include a fixed temperature air to rooms is checked, the calculation is performed assuming a potentially infinite supply of heating or cooling air at a fixed temperature. Therefore the calculated design air flow rate is always able to meet any load or change in load no matter how large or abrupt. In reality air flow rates are limited by duct sizes and fan capacities. Also enables the remaining air flow options Air change, per person, per area, and Air temperature.
  • Fresh air loads - For all included rooms, and for each hour of the design day, Fresh air introduced locally to rooms affects the room load. Fresh air from the central plant with conditioned air is also affects the room load. Conditioned primary air is supplied at the defined Supply temperature, with optional supply Humidity control. Conditioned primary air affects both room loads and central plant loads.
  • Maximum outside conditions - Used to vary the maximum outside dry and wet bulb temperatures experienced on the design day by selecting data based on the weather profile being used for the project. Click Re-calculate all to repeat the calculation with the new temperature data selected.
Results
Displays results from the calculation in several report formats. Clicking the Results tab runs the calculation if there are changes in Design data or a new room selection is made. Gains for individual rooms are detailed on the Design basis report. Total gains are detailed on the Room results report.
